So, nearly 10 hours since I heard the news about Andrew Breitbart passing, My attitude has not changed. I know Mama Blue didn't raise Ole Blue to be callous about death. She would rather I was respectful and rightfully somber. I can not get that feeling for this deceased person. In fact Blue is reminded of an old "Moms" Mabley quote that I will paraphrase right here "Now I was told to always speak good of the dead...Breitbart's dead....GOOD".
Perhaps if I got a chance to have met the man and gathered nuances about him perhaps I could have liked him but chided him about his wholly wrong views. Blue does have some red friends in fact many of my childhood friends and relatives have conservative leanings. Most of us bloggers particularly those of us that are polarizing like the Breitbarts, Wonkette, Blue have no knowledge of each other except if we get wind of stuff we write which is sure to excite our prospective sides and anger the opposite side.
Time Magazine is noted as having Breitbart say he would prefer to be hated than liked. Well, mission accomplished dude. Between you and your partner in crime in "Bratty" O'Keefe you destroyed a good non profit organization in ACORN, You without your pal destroyed a persons career in Shirley Sherrod, you took advantage of a lax media to get a bulldog out of office and in death you made it a point to call Senator Kennedy everything but a man. Now we on the left are aware that Sen. Kennedy wasn't perfect, but you sir took a glee in calling him human excrement. He too had family, he too had people that would love and miss him...and you sir took a giant shit on that...for funsies. Clearly you had no idea that 18-20 months later you would be on the verge of creating effluvium. Perhaps you may have had a little heart, or maybe it would have made you nastier.
Now with your passing and me likely never going to be interviewed by Current, MSNBC, Fox or CNN, we will never meet nor on the whole be considered equals. But we're similar creatures Breitbart. I try to agitate the right, I preach to my choir on the left...I think the main difference between us is/was I believe in my country and I never have to or WOULD have to create shit to make my country appear more dysfunctional than it is.
I hope the decisions you made in your life made you happy, I hope Hell's not TOO uncomfortable and on the whole, your family may be saddened, but your death did a great service to our country

I Come Not to Praise Joe Paterno, But to Bury Him
Thanks to the handy paraphrasing from William Shakespeare.
This is going to be a controversial blog. It's something I must deviate from my new schedule of Tuesday/ Thursday blog notes to bring up the now old report that legendary Penn State football coach, Joe Paterno has died after a two month struggle with lung cancer. Now, I know that lung cancer is a rough way to pass and I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy. That being said, perhaps there is a merciful God that wished to spare Joe Pa of the damning allegations that are sure to come out from the massive cover-up of children being sexually abused, alledgedly, by his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The surface things that have been made aware of since late October aren't flattering to Paterno. He heard something went on, he went to the school president Graham Spanier, then went about and enjoyed the perks of being the man in charge. No follow up though Sandusky still enjoyed emeritus status at Penn State.
It was said that maybe Mike McQueary, who caught Sandusky raping a child in the shower did not give Paterno the full details of what he witnessed..if that's the case he lied to the grand jury but that is another matter. For a person who spent the majority of their life instilling values and accountability into young men and along the way becoming. arguably, the most powerful person in all of sports; to have not taken the concerns beyond the school president was reprehensible. When he still sees Sandusky roaming the offices of Beaver Stadium as if he owned the place and not at least ask "What the hell, Graham?" shows an alarming lack of care.
according to ABCnews.com he didn't know how to handle the accusations: http://abcnews.go.com/US/joe-paterno-admits-handle-sex-allegation/story?id=15362562#.Txxrd29SQbI at the very best perhaps at 84 when he says he never heard of men raping men, he was out of touch with people he should be leading and of course at the worst he was lying. Either way, the man should have been gone well before this time.
For anyone who may say "should we let one lapse of judgment, no matter how grave, mark the man" I bring up Orenthal James Simpson. O.J. as most of us know him by, did you know that twice he broke the single game rushing record? Do you remember he was the first running back to rush for over 2000 yards? Do you know that he was the elite player in the NFL? Do we remember he was very charitable in his NFL career? He was on his way to becoming a good football commentator and was pitching cars for Hertz. He developed a nice comic touch and was instrumental in making the "Naked Gun" movies the franchise they were. Every bit as important as Priscilla Presley and George Kennedy...OR, do you remember a white bronco chase and "If it doesn't fit you must acquit". Sadly, Joe Paterno will be remembered as an enabler. What's even more sad about it is that he knew he should have been what he preached.

Search for Tomorrow: a SOPA opera
Let's get one thing off the bat right now, I don't necessarily disagree with protecting ones intellectual property. The person that came up with the idea richly deserves the spoils for their hard work. That's the one thing about the conservative ideal I do agree with. A great turn of a phrase, a wonderful movement in a opera or great line in our favorite song belongs to the creator of that speech, opera or song. A great idea in business belongs to that person. I think we get the gist here.
I write under the nom de plume "A_Blues_Clue". Clearly I took that from the kids show "Blue's Clues". I have taken great strides to differentiate between the left wing, blue state rantings of a frustrated American and the cute way for children to put two and two together. Now my blog and nom de plume have never been given that dreadful cease and desist order from the creators so I believe that I have not lifted intellectual property but rather covered my bases so there is no confusion between this http://www.dvddisk.net/media/import/img_disk/blues-clues-coloring-pages.jpg and my little ego boost.
While I believe that intellectual property does belong to the creator, there is a dual responsibility in this. We don't need Representative Lamar S. Smith or Senator Marco Rubio to curtail internet rights and trample on the Constitutional issues of free speech. The creator of the great idea they have has every opportunity to copywrite, patent, market whatever his or her idea so that the world sees this idea is theirs!
I know as a college student I can't even say "looking out for love, big, big love" without giving a shout out to Lindsey Buckingham or write under "A_Blues_Clue" without either acknowledging or citing my sources. If we remember the lessons of high school and cite our sources and become more forthcoming then there is no need for censorship. There is no need to be up in arms over what we can and can not see.
I am aware this is about much more than "citations" and "confusion" but this is one time Ole Blue will play along and give people the benefit of the doubt...

Living in America...
well, ole Blue disappeared for a while. I do apologize for that. Personal life has a way of doing that. I am preparing for a wedding, I took my first failure in school and the holidays made for a hectic time in the blue blogosphere. But I have noticed things. NDAA, candidates tying dogs to roofs of cars, the blatant racism thrown the way of PBHO. Yes, Blue has noticed.
Now I have also noticed an old KKK slogan being foist forward as a catchy little phrase for one Mitt Romney. "America For Americans." Let's think about that for a second shall we? America for Americans. Appropriated by Willard "Mitt" Romney...the phrase "America for Americans" has been around sine the 1920's and it was used for the KKK to recruit volunteers. Don't believe Blue? It's okay, I am partisan, so to show you how vulgar this is, I actually went to the KKK site...http://originalknightsofamerica.webs.com/newsletter.htm...You're welcomed to look at it. Then in 1950 we have this bit of love from the whitest assholes you know https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOuX7e9mcQo3GpvoFkczmCEsH3Ee6nz-NYsikb1FaOasb_o9QMvCnX6p0fECj4XHdzdtNY4ZPGOe_ClMZdyPvFgV9C1jiMOeydd9LF7IL1GA81kP9A9tW9g0cPVt4ez6OKie5oYTApHA/s1600/kkk+kaa+jpg.jpg . Again, look at it if you have any doubts as to what I am saying.
Now to look that up was all of 35 seconds of my time. To verify it took all of a minute. I'm just a line cook and a community college student. I made the correlation between KKK, Racism, and Romney and didn't even break a sweat. IF we are to believe that Mitt made a simple mistake, then the man is clearly too stupid to run a country if a middle aged community college student found this information out and has more than the two sites that are being shown to back up his ascertation. If he truly did not know, that candidate treads a line of comical and dangerous not seen since the Shrub. I'm going out on a limb here, he knows. If he is not consciously or willingly racist, the son of a bitch is pandering to that vote. We have to be above that. We as a people have to notice that a day after we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, celebrate the 70th birthday of Muhammad Ali, that this kind of divisive, race baiting tactic can not continue to be accepted as "just politics." We have to be aware of our history, we have to know what the Constitution says. If not, we just believe that its all about guns and states...but that will be fine because you won't have the right to think anything but that if YOU as an uninformed voter continue to vote against your best interest because Mittens has a catchy phrase. stop taking your news in cute soundbites investigate, garner a fucking clue or else...I won't speculate, I will let you think of your own worse case scenario. and if it comes back to "Obama is a communist, fascist, socialist, Nazi"...then I guess you get the country you deserve and the abhorrence of REAL Americans

First amendment for real now!
So Hank Williams, Jr. is important for a lot of reasons this week. One reason is to let us know that talent really does skip a generation but the other is that he was fired from his cushy gig at Monday Night Football by indicating on Fox News that "Obama and Boehner playing golf together is the equivilant to Hitler golfing with Netanyahu." First rule of internet argument is 'One who brings up Hitler, automatically loses." Now the beauty of the first amendment is that Ole dumb Hank, Jr. can believe that all he wants. He can make that statement and though it is offensive, crude and stereotypically redneck ignernt, he is entitled to said opinion.
I like many liberals in 2003 got upset over the Dixie Chicks being ostracized for their inflammatory comments of then President Bush. Fox news (not so ironically) led the uproar of how they lacked being patriotic at a time when the country needed them. I thought that people were moronic in their hyperbole. Then my brother in law brought up a point "they have that right to say that, and people have the right to not buy their albums.
That being said, Hank, Jr. can spout off his "New Confederacy" bullshit all he wants, he can spout off that "Obama, Biden....the Three Stooges" are the 'enemy' to his heartless content, and ESPN and Monday Night Football have every right to protect their brand. We DO have free speech, but if I walk into work and say "everything on this menu is garbage I wouldn't feed to a maggot", then my boss has every right to thank me for my time working there and find a place where the menu isn't maggot worthy. ie to break it down, I can say anything I want (within certain limits) and it will have no ramification on me going to school, raising kids, preparing my marriage. I won't go to jail. I won't get stoned by the masses (at least literally); I may, however, lose my job, a certain standing I may have and depending on how vehement I am, a certain respect of my peers.
On another note, Blue is rattled by the loss of another liberal voice. Melissa Hayes, AKA 'Ginger Snaps' was killed in a tragic accident in Nebraska. I did not know Melissa that well. In fact I only friended her about 3 weeks before her passing but she held a standard of debate that is sorely lacking in this day and age. A nuanced liberal with tolerance that Blue here has lost over 30 years of Right Wing lies. If I take any lesson from her, it is to continue to listen to the republican viewpoint fully instead of jumping in with my (usually correct view) and to have a bit more class in my rebuttal. You will be missed Melissa

Wedding Cakes, Drama Class and H.L. Mencken
In my neck of the woods, I see it's overcast. But it is a good day my governor hasn't screwed things up irreparably today, Governor Goodhair hasn't stuck his foot in his mouth yet today, and BHO is still running the country. My sports team all won and sweetie and me got our cake situation sort of straightened out...all in all a good day for Blue.
It's a day to treasure. I am not foaming at the mouth at my computer...maybe because I haven't dove to deeply in yet but no one has said anything that caused my head to do that thing it does in the movie Scanners or caused my blood pressure to shoot to 235/197...YET. I enjoy these days. I can't lie. It's part of what lead Blue to becoming a bit lazy over the last 48 days. A wonderful vacation in Paradise....(literally) an engagement to the sweetest gal in the world, strong reviews in my job, classes starting to roll...Then I realized as much as I need to vent I owe it to my passionate...fans, followers, devotees....whatever conceit i allow me to continue. To be the spleen venter. To try to find sense in a nation of 5 year old children. We got plenty of them on both sides blue and red.
It was H.L. Mencken whom I paraphrase- "It is the job of this blog to bring comfort to the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable". I have to do that. It's a compulsion of over 40 years to be the one that points out that sometimes the emporer IS wearing no clothes. I have taken that baton and ran with it and I see no reason to stop now...at the same time however, sometimes battles have to be chosen as opposed to ranting at every injustice.
That is why I enjoy the "nothing" days. Today is shaping up beautifully and maybe between my subway sandwich and drama class i can find something that will cause me to have a metaphorical apoplexy. Til then I leave one more Bon Mot from Mr. Mencken- "In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican."

some say a man ain't happy 'less a man truly dies, oh why, sign o' the times...
what can I say. I think that 2012 may be one of the most important presidential elections in our 235 years of being a country. This is not mere hyperbole, this is a seriously wicked crossroad that we are at. When you have 300 people keeping millions out of work to put one good man out of a job, when this rendition of the "supreme" court has said corporations are people, when DADT being repealed as the equivilant of the rise of the third reich, when health care reform is less appealing than losing warS, when reasonable doubt is pissed away to put another notch on a belt when the man is African-American then a viable argument when the man is white...my country I love has lost it's way.
it is likely that within four years that our country will need a new appointment to the "supreme" court with 4 of the justices, including the liberal lioness Ruth Bader Ginsburg in their 70's, we can not have "President(s)" Perry, Bachmann, or Romney making these decisions. It was surely no mistake that John Roberts was tapped by the shrub to be the Chief Justice at the tender age of 51. If he lives as long as Rehnquist and is as stubborn, he will be Chief Justice almost as long as John Marshall. That thought is beyond terrifying to me. Unless we get idealistic liberals that know the power and the word of The Constitution, then Thomas, Alito, Roberts and the other band of thugs, will have no checks OR balances and they will continue to run roughshod over The Constitution.
The historical implications of running a primary against the sitting president has been disaster for the incumbent. Ask Jerry Ford, ask Jimmy Carter, Ask George Bush the First. Barack Obama has had an amazing first term when taken under consideration that half of congress (including you damn DINO's) fought every measure he ran out there, He got health care reform passed (no thanks to the Reich Wing and Damn DINO's) he got Osama Bin Laden, he did stimulus packages the right way, he got DADT repealed, he's attacking DOMA, he is on the verge of getting "No Child Left Behind" struck down, yet some of my liberal brethren bitch it ain't enough or he's a closet republican or i hear "Obummer"...WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? He's not a magic man like Heart sang about. He's a man trying to get 30 years of GOP fuck ups straightened out and if you thought that in two and a half years he was going have it all figured out, put down your joystick or your X-box console, pull your head out of your ass and look around he stopped a depression! It was no recession it was a depression brought about by ceding control of our country to big business. The rights for workers that Sam Gompers fought for are being slowly eroded...and some of you idiots don't see the forest for the damned trees.
So no, BHO does not "need" to be primaried, he doesn't need to "get a wake up call" he doesn't need "a lesson" he needs YOU to get a clue as to how a country is run and get your ass involved the right way. Support him, understand that he is cleaning up this mess a little at a time and remember WE'RE the change we need to be!
